“120-year old floor refinishing in old Bisbee: We couldn't be happier with the job that Ryan and his team performed in completely transforming the original wood flooring in our 120-year old Bisbee home. When we bought the home, the 1400 square feet or so of wood flooring was in pretty bad shape. It was extremely rough, dark, and discolored, and had many damaged areas and soft spots. In addition, half of the main level had been replaced with the old Bisbee high school basketball flooring, and there was a stark color difference with the other half of the flooring. Further still, about half of the flooring in the master bedroom was original (painted) wood, and the other half was plywood boards laid over deteriorated floor joists. Because of this, the master bedroom was carpeted to cover the plywood, which was rather sad, as the master bedroom was the only carpeted room in the house. Ryan and his crew used their modern "dustless" floor sanders to reveal the beauty of the original flooring. His investment in this equipment saved us the major pain of having the entire house covered in dust, which was hugely appreciated. In addition, they made many repairs to areas that had been damaged over the years. Most amazingly, Ryan was able to sandwich the deteriorated master bedroom floor joists and install new planks that very closely match the original flooring. Ryan stained the entire floor so that it all matches beautifully, and finished it with a gorgeous matte finish (note the photo was taken just after application of the finish, so it looks shiny, but dried matte). It is nearly impossible to find anyone to refinish an old Bisbee floor, but Ryan and his team were willing and able to commute from Tucson for the nearly 2-week-long job. We can't express how appreciative and happy we are with the work, and highly recommend Definitive Designs for any old-house, wood-flooring restoration work.
